A tireless philanthropist
Chef Pyles has been involved with Hunger Relief since the mid-80s and in 1988 became a founding board member of Share Our Strength, the country’s largest private source of funding for Hunger Relief. Pyles says, “I’ve always believed that those of us who have made healthy livings from feeding people should be most concerned with helping those who cannot afford to feed themselves”. When Chef Pyles discovered that 1 in 4 children in Texas is at risk of hunger, he focused his efforts on childhood hunger. Through Taste of the Nation events and No Kid Hungry dinners, Chef Pyles has raised millions of dollars over the past 35 years for childhood hunger initiatives. Most recently, he produced a No Kid Hungry dinner hosting famous author and Hunger Relief advocate, John Grisham. Pyles Is a Life Board Member of the North Texas Food Bank and in 1988 co-founded the Dallas Hunger Link, a perishable food program that connected restaurants and hotels with food pantries and soup kitchens. Chef Pyles was given the Humanitarian of the Year award by Share Our Strength and the Kenneth Cooper Lifetime Achievement Award from the Dallas Area Parkinson’s Society for his charitable efforts.
